Equalities Statement

At Kerr Mackie Primary School all members of our school community feel welcome and valued. Our vision, which is underpinned by the 5 Cs (community, challenge, confidence, curiosity and care) supports inclusion, equality and challenges discrimination. We have high expectations for all our pupils regardless of their background, heritage, gender or any additional need.

Our equalities statement is guided by our 5 Cs:

We care for all of our learners;

We recognise and respect the heritage of our community;

We foster confident relationships and a shared sense of community;

We observe good practice in recruitment, retention and staff development;

We aim to challenge barriers to equality wherever we see it.

Our equality objectives 2022-2023

We ensure our school community:

Promotes spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through appropriate curricular and extra-curricular opportunities.

Challenges prejudice and promotes equality through teaching with care across the curriculum;

Moves beyond concepts of permanent ability and we model teaching and learning behaviours that develop a resilient mind-set;

Promotes an understanding of all our experiences, both in and beyond the school;

Challenges prejudice or extremism in relation to the protected characteristics listed in the Equality Act 2010.

We want to:

Support our most vulnerable pupils and their parents;

Support the effective inclusion of our SEND pupils;

Ensure the well-being of all children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment;

Focus on interventions that narrow the attainment gap for all our pupils and

Ensure that all pupils make progress, including any vulnerable groups.

On our policies page, documents can be found that support equality and diversity in school.

Please note that this list is not exhaustive and you will see evidence of equality across all aspects of our school life, as well as this website.
